Jamie Goode’s Festive Food and Wine Pairings

We picked Jamie’s festive brain to get his recommendations on which Bordeaux wines to serve with which course. You might be surprised, but trust him, he’s an expert!

Ham & parsley sauce

This is where I’d opt for a dry white Bordeaux, preferably with a little maturity. People forget about how good these wines can be, and just how well they can age. The classic blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, barrel fermented, has freshness combined with richness and palate depth, and these wines develop superbly in bottle. Try something with more structure such as Château Tour Léognan 2012 from the Pessac-Léognan AOC, available from ASDA (£10-14.99).

Chocolate Yule Log and/or cheese course

This is where we hit the sweet wines of Bordeaux, which is one of the region’s often forgotten talents. In Sauternes, Bordeaux has one of the world’s iconic sweet wine styles, and I love it.  Try a luscious and intense sweet white such as Waitrose Sauternes Château Suduiraut 2009 available at Waitrose (£15-20)
