Father’s Day Wines

Opt for a great bottle of Bordeaux that he can enjoy on his own or with family. We’ve picked six of our favourite Bordeaux wines that will suit every man’s taste and style, and ones that are also easy on the wallet.

For blackcurrant flavours with a touch of oak, treat your dad to a round & structured bottle of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, such as the Château de Pitray Cabernet Franc 2011, 75cl, £11.95 (available from The Wine Society). Perfect with roast meats or a piece of hard cheese, this wine will do just the trick for Dad’s Sunday lunch. Find our selection of round & structured red wines here.

If he prefers a fruitier Merlot blend, then opt for a bottle of supple & fruity red Bordeaux, such as the Château Lary, 2014, 75cl, £6.75 (available from The Wine Society). This wine has great plummy flavours, and is a little softer if your dad prefers easy-drinking reds. Pair with a sauce-based dish, such as a bolognaise or bangers and mash. Find our selection of supple & fruity Bordeaux reds here.Dry white wines from Bordeaux are crisp and delicious, and the majority are produced from a Sauvignon Blanc dominant grape blend.

For some light refreshment, why not give your dad a cool, zesty bottle of structured & generous Château Le Bernet 2014, 75cl, £9 (available at Sainsbury”s), produced within the Graves region. With smoky, citrus notes, match it with a lemon and thyme roasted chicken or a good fish pie. For more structured & generous dry white Bordeaux options, click here.

If Dad has a sweet tooth, opt for a bottle of mellow & fruity sweet Bordeaux white wine. We recommend this brilliantly priced Tesco Premières Côtes De Bordeaux, 75cl, £6.50.

And you’d like to gift him something that’s even sweeter (and more special), treat him to the unctuous & intense sweet Tesco finest Sauternes 37.5cl 2014, £11. This super-sweet Sauternes tastes of baked fruits and honey, meaning it will pair well with pudding!
